Government circles are reporting that the DGP visited the Chief Minister’s residence on Tuesday night and submitted his resignation there. Various discussions surrounding his resignation began late Tuesday night. However, as of the time of writing, the state government has not officially confirmed his resignation.
Meanwhile, there is also talk that three officers in the DG rank are Anil Palta, Prashant Singh, and MS Bhatia. The state government could appoint one of these three as DGP. Anil Palta is currently the Railway DGP, while Prashant Singh is the Wireless DGP, and MS Bhatia is the Home Guard DG.
It is noteworthy that Anurag Gupta was promoted to DG rank in 2022. The state government appointed him as the acting DGP on July 26, 2024. However, he was removed during the assembly elections on the orders of the Election Commission. The state government, by drafting the DGP Appointment Rules, made him the regular DGP on February 3, 2025. Anurag Gupta’s regular retirement was due in April 2025, but the state government issued a notification appointing him until February 2027.
