Interest Certificate: Anyone who has a savings account, RD account or FD account in the post office can now download the interest certificate from the comfort of their home.
Interest Certificate: The Postal Department has started the facility of downloading Interest Certificate through the Internet Banking portal of the post office. This will provide great relief to the Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) account holders. That is, if you also have a savings account in the post office or you have made an FD, then now you will not need to go to any branch of the post office for interest certificate. Senior citizens will benefit the most from this decision. You may need this certificate while filing ITR.
On May 7, 2025, the Department of Posts said in its order, “For the convenience of internet banking customers, a provision has been made for e-banking users to download interest certificate through internet banking portal.”
Why is interest certificate needed?
Along with filing tax, interest certificate is also needed for cross checking. To see whether you are getting the same interest on the deposit amount as made or not. Interest certificate is also necessary for those whose income is less than the taxable limit. On the basis of interest certificate, they have to fill Form 15G/Form 15H to avoid TDS deduction. Now the most important thing is what is the complete process of downloading interest certificate sitting at home-
- First of all go to the website ebanking.indiapost.gov.in.
- If you are already registered then login by entering your user ID and password and if you are not registered then you will have to sign up first.
- After logging in, go to the Accounts tab.
- Now click on Interest Certificate.
- After this, you will have to select the financial year for which you want to download the interest certificate.
- Now you can download the interest certificate.
