Jharkhand News : There’s good news for Jharkhand. Following Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s request, the central government has requested metro train plans for three cities in the state. Following the central government’s demand, Chief Minister Soren is in action mode.
The central government has taken a positive initiative regarding metro rail in Jharkhand’s three major cities: Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad. The center has asked the Jharkhand government to prepare and submit a new Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) regarding metro rail in these three cities. Following the center’s request for a new CMP, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed the Urban Development and Housing Department to prepare a new CMP. The department has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP).
Chief Minister Hemant Soren requested a Metro Rail project in Ranchi from Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Eastern Zonal Council meeting on July 10th. Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Sunil Kumar, immediately submitted a proposal to the Central Government. The Central Government then requested a CMP. The state submitted a CMP prepared a decade ago. After studying it, the Central Government agreed that the old mobility plan for the three cities no longer met current needs.
Consequently, the Central Government has asked Jharkhand to prepare and submit a new and updated CMP. According to Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Sunil Kumar, a new CMP for Metro Rail will be prepared and submitted to the Central Government within one and a half to two months. The state government believes that the formal process for the Metro will begin once this new CMP is submitted to the Central Government.

According to experts, the CMP is the foundational document without which approval for a metro or any rapid transit system is impossible. It provides a detailed assessment of the city’s current and future traffic situation, road network, traffic congestion, availability of public transport, the increasing number of private vehicles, congestion, pollution, and environmental impact. Based on this data, the metro routes will be determined and the project’s economic viability will be determined. The central government will decide on the operation of the metro in the three cities based on the new CMP.
Urban Development Principal Secretary Sunil Kumar stated that following a strong bid by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the central government has taken positive action regarding the metro rail projects in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad. The new CMP requested by the central government will be submitted within one and a half to two months.
